Journalists meet in Ankara: The dilemmas of 'opposition media' to be discussed
The Progressive Journalists Association (ÇGD) is organizing a panel titled "The Dilemmas of 'Opposition Media'" to address current media issues and the state of the independent press. During the panel, several critical topics, ranging from the need for media criticism to organizational challenges within the sector, will be discussed by experts in the field.
The panel, organized by the Progressive Journalists Association, will meet with its audience on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The event, moderated by journalist and ÇGD President Kıvanç El, will examine the difficulties of remaining in opposition within today's media landscape and the media's own internal criticism mechanisms.
During the panel, media critic and journalist Faruk Bildirici will deliver a presentation titled "The Need for Criticism in 'Opposition' Media," while academic Gökhan Bulut will seek answers to the question, "The Media's Opposition, The Opposition's Media: What Should (Not) Be Done?"
Journalist Musa Özuğurlu will evaluate ways to maintain journalistic practice under today's challenging conditions under the title "Remaining in Opposition in Today's Media." Journalist Esra Tokat will draw attention to labor exploitation and union struggles in the sector, delivering a speech titled "Organizing in the Media: The Intellectual Worker as the 'Common Enemy'."
The event, which is expected to see high participation from media workers and media students, will be held at the Doğan Taşdelen Contemporary Arts Center between 12:00 and 14:00.
