Judicial control measure for journalist Can Ataklı

A judicial control decision has been issued for Can Ataklı, which includes a travel ban and a requirement to sign in with authorities.

The investigation launched ex officio by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Can Ataklı continues. Ataklı is accused of "publicly disseminating misleading information" following a social media post on March 25 claiming that Devlet Bahçeli had been intubated, a post which was identified as manipulative news by the Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM).

Ataklı provided his statement to the prosecutor's office as part of the investigation.

In his statement, Ataklı argued that he did not act with the intent to commit a crime and that his remarks fell within the scope of journalistic activity; he was then referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for judicial control.

The court decided to impose judicial control measures on Ataklı, requiring him to report to authorities and prohibiting him from traveling abroad.
