The judiciary has announced its decision on Soma and Amasra!

28 public officials who were not included in the 'Soma Case' regarding the mining massacre in the Soma district of Manisa 10 years ago, in which 301 miners lost their lives, appeared before a judge for the first time today after a 10-year interval.

During the trial process that began in 2015 and lasted more than 3 years, no investigation permit had been granted regarding the public officials. As a result of the investigation conducted by the Soma Chief Public Prosecutor's Office due to the mining accident that resulted in the loss of 301 miners' lives, an indictment was prepared against 28 public officials who were found to have been negligent, and a public lawsuit was filed at the Soma 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

The first hearing of the public lawsuit began today at 09:35 at the Soma Courthouse. The case was adjourned to September 12, 2024.

In the Amasra mining accident, where 43 workers died, three of the detained defendants were released.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The criminal case, which began at the Akhisar High Criminal Court on April 13, 2015, with a total of 45 defendants—8 of whom were detained and 37 of whom were tried without detention—along with 162 injured victims, 487 deceased complainants, and 436 witnesses, was concluded with the 22nd hearing on July 11, 2018.

While 14 defendants, including the chairman of the board, general manager, operations manager, and assistant manager of Soma Coal Enterprises, received prison sentences, the other 37 defendants were acquitted.
