Junior doctors in Wales begin 4-day strike
Junior doctors in Wales have begun their longest strike to date, lasting 4 days, due to a dispute with the government over pay increases and the improvement of working conditions.
In Wales, approximately 3,000 doctors, who are striking for the third time this year, argue that their pay has been cut by nearly a third since 2008 and that the Welsh government's offer of a 5 percent pay rise, which is below inflation, is the worst offer in the United Kingdom.
The government, however, claims that it cannot afford a pay rise higher than the 5 percent rejected by the junior doctors.
The doctors are demanding fair and reasonable pay increases as well as improvements to their working conditions.
THOUSANDS OF SURGERIES MAY BE CANCELLED
Health authorities in the country have warned of the significant impact the industrial action will have on services.
It is anticipated that thousands of patient appointments and surgeries may be cancelled due to the 4-day strike by junior doctors.
Emergency care services will continue to be provided during the strike.
The action by the doctors, who have begun their longest strike in Wales to date, will end on Friday at 07:00 TSI.
