Justice Minister Gürlek sends 'independent judiciary' message at HSK iftar program: An indispensable principle

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek attended the iftar program organized by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK). Addressing HSK members and staff, Minister Gürlek stated that Ramadan is also a month of self-reflection and a climate of purification.

Stating that justice begins in the conscience above all else, is shaped by law, and comes to life through rulings, Minister Gürlek noted that members of the judiciary carry a heavy trust.

Minister Gürlek said, "As a colleague who has come from within this organization, I say this with peace of mind: The duty of the judiciary requires not only knowledge but also patience, dignity, and a strong conscience.

The Council of Judges and Prosecutors is the institutional guarantor of this great trust. Every decision made by our Council is not just an appointment or promotion process, but also a determination of direction for the future of our judicial organization. In this respect, our responsibility is great."

In his speech, Minister Gürlek used the expressions, "Judicial independence is not a wish for us, but an indispensable principle. A strong judiciary stands tall with strong institutions and strong professional honor."

"Protecting the dignity and professional honor of our judicial organization is our common duty"

Minister Gürlek expressed that he is aware of the workload on the judicial organization and continued his speech as follows:

"I know the weight of societal expectations. I also see how the climate of debate that occasionally forms over the judiciary tires you, but be assured of this: This organization is not left without an owner. Protecting the professional security of each of you, strengthening merit, and preserving the prestige of judicial service are our priorities. Protecting the dignity and professional honor of our judicial organization is our common duty. Justice is not only about making the right decision; it is also about ensuring that society believes that decision is fair. Trust is our most valuable asset."
