Statement from Justice Minister Tunç regarding 'Mehmet Şimşek'
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into those who brought up the claim that "Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek has resigned."
Minister Tunç stated the following in a post on his social media account:
"An ex officio investigation has been launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against those who create and disseminate intentional and misleading news—which causes unusual price and volume movements, aims to misdirect stock market investors, and leads to financial losses by spreading baseless resignation rumors about our Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mr. Mehmet Şimşek, on certain social media platforms—pursuant to Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code for the crime of 'publicly disseminating misleading information' and Article 107/2 of the Capital Markets Law.
Those who mislead the public with disinformation and false information, and those who cause speculation in the economy through statements and posts, will not be tolerated."
