Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announces: Investigation launched into CHP's Tuncay Özkan

An investigation has been launched into CHP İzmir Deputy Tuncay Özkan for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced the investigation initiated by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced the launch of the investigation on his social media account as follows:

"An investigation has been launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into İzmir Deputy Tuncay Özkan, who insulted and slandered our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, via social media. Our President is a leader who has grown from the bosom of our nation. He has dedicated his life to a great and powerful Turkey. The insolent and ugly expressions directed at our President, who was elected by the votes of our noble nation and works day and night to serve our country and nation, can never be accepted. I strongly condemn the rude and immoral words of a person holding the identity of a deputy, which disregard the values of the nation."

AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik also reacted by comparing Özkan to the fascist Geert Wilders. Çelik said, "The words of a CHP deputy directed at our President, which lack political morality and are a monument to ugliness, are nothing more than this person holding a mirror to himself. The person who speaks with this style has aspired to be remembered by these epithets throughout his life in Turkish political history. The fact that this CHP deputy's ugly style directed at our President is on the same wavelength as the Dutch, anti-Turkish and anti-Islamic fascist Geert Wilders is not our problem, but the CHP's problem."
