Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç's statement on the 'Çağlayan Courthouse' attack: 'If they had managed to enter through the door...'

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made statements following the attack at the Çağlayan Courthouse. 

Highlights from Minister Tunç's statements are as follows:

"Today, at approximately 11:32, there was an attempted attack on the Istanbul Courthouse.

First and foremost, I condemn the treacherous terrorist attack and convey our best wishes to our nation.

The health status of our injured citizens is good; they are receiving treatment in hospitals. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured police officers and citizens. I pray for mercy for those who lost their lives.

Our heroic police, with their determined heroism and vigilant behavior while on security duty, prevented a treacherous terrorist attack.

There had been a terrorist attack in Çağlayan before. Our martyred Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz was martyred. Today, they neutralized the treacherous terrorists who perhaps wanted to realize the same treacherous ambitions."

NUMBER OF DETAINEES RISES TO 34

Announcing that 34 people have been detained following the attack, Tunç continued as follows:

The detention process is continuing under the coordination of 5 Public Prosecutors and one Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor.

All of them will continue to be examined within the scope of the judicial investigation.

"IF THEY HAD MANAGED TO ENTER THROUGH THE DOOR..."

Work regarding criminal records is being carried out meticulously. One of them is someone who received a 15-year sentence for membership in an armed terrorist organization in 2024, and whose sentence had been executed.

The other, a female terrorist, is someone whose terrorism case is still pending at the Court of Cassation. If they had managed to enter through the door, they might have been able to engage in a larger terrorist act.

Here, the security forces acted very carefully and, at the cost of their own injuries, prevented a major terrorist act.
