Kartalkaya tragedy on the agenda in the Turkish Parliament: Commission to be established

The commission established in the Turkish Parliament to investigate the fire that occurred on January 21 at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, which resulted in the deaths of 78 people, was formed 22 days after the event. The 21-member commission determined by the Parliament will examine the causes of the fire, security vulnerabilities at the hotel, and inspection processes in detail.

Following the election of its chair, the commission will work for 4 months, listen to witnesses, and prepare a report. This report will then be discussed in the Parliamentary General Assembly. However, it is noted that the completion of the entire process will take at least 6 months.

WHO WILL BE INTERVIEWED?

Commission members will conduct inspections at the Grand Kartal Hotel where the fire took place. Additionally, interviews will be held with survivors of the fire, relatives of those who lost their lives, the hotel owner currently in prison, and other detainees. The Governor of Bolu, the Mayor, the Provincial Police Chief, and fire department officials will also be heard by the commission.

COMMISSION MEMBERS ANNOUNCED

The research commission includes Resul Kurt, Yüksel Coşkunyürek, Selami Altınok, Derya Bakbak, İsmail Erdem, Nurettin Alan, Tuba Köksal, Murat Çıngı, Tahir Akyürek, Kadem Mete, and Cevahir Özyurt from the AKP; Sururi Corabatır, Türker Ateş, Ednan Arslan, and Süreyya Öneş Derici from the CHP; Ömer Faruk Hülakü and Keziban Konukçu Kök from the DEM Party; Semih Işıkver and Naci Şanlıtürk from the MHP; Rıdvan Uz from the IYI Party; and Cem Avşar from YENİYOL.
