KDP leader Masoud Barzani makes striking remarks on Erdoğan and the PKK! 'I heard it for the first time in 2009...'

KDP leader Masoud Barzani made assessments regarding the current agenda to Erbil-based Shams TV.

Stating that signs of the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria were visible but that it was not expected to collapse this early, Barzani said, “In fact, the regime was collapsing in 2011, but Iran, Russia, and Lebanon's Hezbollah kept it standing.”

Barzani said, “What has been heard from the Syrian authorities so far is very good, but we hope that the implementation will also be this way. We expect the new administration in Syria to understand the Kurdish reality. Kurds in this country should also try to obtain their rights and solve their problems through peaceful means and dialogue.”

“It is time for the PKK to leave the Syrian Kurds. The presence of the PKK in Syria is a major problem,” said Barzani, expressing his desire to visit Qamishli at an appropriate time and opportunity.

Regarding the formation of the government in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq, Barzani stated that they have no veto against anyone and that the cabinet could be formed within 2 months, and that it would not extend until the Iraqi elections.

Emphasizing that relations between the KRG and Turkey are good and that he hopes this will contribute to the development of peace in the region, Barzani said, "In official meetings, we have always emphasized brotherhood between Kurds and Turks. This is a new language in Turkey, and such a language had never been accepted before. I heard for the first time in 2009 from (President) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that they wanted to solve the Kurdish issue in Turkey.”
