Kemal Okuyan: Erdoğan's hand has strengthened, CHP is not acting like a candidate for power

TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan addressed current issues on the 'Communist Perspective' program broadcast on YouTube.

In the program, in response to a question from 12punto Editor-in-Chief Mustafa Büyüksipahi regarding the events in Syria, 'Did what happened provide a lifeline to the AKP?', TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan gave the following answer:

"Erdoğan's supporters within the current system—the West, NATO, the US, and Turkish capital—have largely resolved their problems with them.

Through economic policies, with Mehmet Şimşek, but also with Syria policies and Ukraine policies. He has intensified cooperation with NATO in recent times. I do not think they will enter into a new search. In any case, the CHP is not acting like a party that is a candidate for power. Erdoğan has had success in this as well. Erdoğan sowed problems within the CHP and he did it well. The CHP was also open to this. That is why there is a debate about who the presidential candidate will be. 'Mansur Yavaş or Ekrem İmamoğlu?' and so on... I am starting to believe that this debate is also losing its importance. Let's not speak too soon, there is still time, but as of now, Erdoğan's hand has strengthened significantly. It is not as if society always thinks rationally like this. Things are looked at superficially. He made a bet with Assad. Now Davutoğlu has appeared and said, 'We will also go and pray in the Umayyad Mosque'... But who prayed there before them? A person who is on the terrorist organization list went and prayed. If I were in Davutoğlu's place, I would be ashamed to utter that sentence. 'We will also go and pray,' you go a week later. They didn't let you pray there. If I were in his place, I would be ashamed, but there is no sense of shame. Until yesterday, he was criticizing Erdoğan. Now he has appeared again.

Erdoğan's hand has strengthened, of course; the issue is already in the background of the matter. It is not about individuals. If you are unhappy with the AKP in Turkey, you must fight against imperialism, you must fight against Zionism. You must fight for secularism. You must wage a class struggle. Without doing these, I will push the palace regime, I will change it, a one-man regime, etc... There is no such life. Especially in such a world, there is no such life. While things are so chaotic... The West's understanding of democracy has narrowed down to HTS. This is how the Western world comes to us. It comes with HTS. It comes with Zionism, it comes with blood... And you are still talking about Western-style democracy, and you are trying to oppose with that."
