Kemal Okuyan to Nevşin Mengü: 'We will ask for your help before defending the rights of citizens'
Businessman Rahmi M. Koç sparked controversy with his remarks, saying, "There are 5.5 million people working in the state. Therefore, this state could easily run with 2 million people." Journalist Nevşin Mengü stated, "4.5 million of these 5.5 million public employees are already AKP supporters. They are not handlebar-mustachioed socialists." Responding to Mengü, TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan said, "From now on, before defending the rights and interests of our citizens, we will research which party they voted for and ask for your help."
Rahmi M. Koç, Honorary Chairman of Koç Holding and one of Turkey's wealthiest individuals, was a guest on the interview series prepared by the Koç Group in honor of the Republic's 100th anniversary and the group's 97th anniversary.
Koç sparked public debate with his words: "There are 5.5 million people working in the state. Therefore, this state could easily run with 2 million people. There are 600 members of parliament; it could easily be handled with 200."
'NOT HANDLEBAR-MUSTACHIOED SOCIALISTS'
Evaluating these remarks on a YouTube live broadcast, journalist Nevşin Mengü said, "4.5 million of these 5.5 million public employees are already AKP supporters. They are not handlebar-mustachioed socialists."
TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan responded to Mengü's statement.
'BEFORE DEFENDING THE RIGHTS OF CITIZENS...'
Okuyan stated, "It is a bit late, but from now on, before defending the rights and interests of our citizens who work twelve hours a day without job security and struggle with hunger, who remain trapped under collapses in mines, or whose homes collapse on top of them during earthquakes, we will research which party they voted for and ask for your help. That way, you won't smile in vain during these difficult days."
