KESK issues call for May Day in Taksim

The Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK) Istanbul Branches Platform issued a call for the May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day, stating, "Let's meet in Taksim Square on May 1st. Let's come together to say that this order cannot continue like this in the face of hunger, unemployment, and precariousness."

The KESK Istanbul Branches Platform held a press conference to announce the preparations, program, and demands for the upcoming May 1st International Workers' Day of Unity, Struggle, and Solidarity. KESK Term Spokesperson Hüseyin Tosun pointed to the economic crisis and described the conditions of the workers.

Calling for organization for May 1st, Tosun said, "We must organize our will shoulder to shoulder, workplace by workplace, street by street, square by square; we express that we will continue the struggle for labor, peace, democracy, equality, and freedom in Turkey and Istanbul, just as in every country in the world."

Stating that they will be in Taksim on May 1st, Tosun said, "Our insistence on Taksim continues, both legally and legitimately, and as a requirement of our promise to those we lost in Taksim on May 1st, 1977 and 1989. Let's meet in Taksim Square on May 1st."
