KFC closes branches due to boycott

KFC has halted a significant portion of its operations in Malaysia.

According to information from the Chinese-language newspaper Nanyang Siang Pau, which cited Google Maps, QSR Brands—the owner and operator of KFC in Malaysia—has temporarily suspended operations at 108 branches across the country.

It was observed that KFC branches in the Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Sultan, and Taman Melawati areas of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, were closed.

Employees noted that the branches have been closed for the past week due to a lack of customers.

In Malaysia's Kelantan state, 80 percent of KFC branches have been temporarily closed. This is followed by the state of Johor, where 15 branches have been shut down.

QSR Brands has not yet made a statement regarding the development. KFC has over 600 branches in Malaysia.

International companies that have made statements or sent aid in support of Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, are facing boycotts and protests worldwide.

The US restaurant chain KFC has also been among the Western brands facing protest and boycott campaigns, alongside companies such as McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Domino's, Unilever, and Nestle.
