Kılıçdaroğlu issues harsh response to Erdoğan over 'standing up' incident: 'He should not expect respect from us'

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) has begun its legislative work after a 2-month break. The opening ceremony of the 3rd legislative year of the 28th term was held.

Before the session began, the CHP Parliamentary Group management sent a message to its deputies requesting that they stand up when AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan entered the hall.

The CHP Group stood up as Erdoğan approached the podium but did not applaud. Regarding the situation, Özgür Özel stated, "The normalization steps have no harm to my party, nor do they have any harm to my country."

Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made a social media post regarding the incident.

Kılıçdaroğlu's post is as follows:

“In our tradition, there is founding a state and protecting the state!

If the state is in danger, it is primarily the duty of the Republican People's Party to save it.

The individual who insults our Party and the opposition every time he sees a microphone must understand that,

The President must be impartial. He took his oath upon his “honor and integrity.”

However, he has not remained faithful to his oath and has practically mocked the sacred values of society. Today, we can see neither an impartial president nor someone faithful to his oath!

The CHP is not, and will not be, a notary for the lawlessness he commits!

We do not respect those who do not recognize the constitution and those who cast a shadow over the legitimacy of the Parliament…

We, as CHP members, only stand up for the people; we stand up for retirees condemned to poverty and for children who go to bed hungry!

We stand up for those dismissed by decree whose rights have been usurped, and for the people of Hatay whose will has been mortgaged in prison!

To demand an account for the 128 billion dollars stolen from the nation,

And to say stop to the 'gang of five' that is robbing the nation, we stand up.

No one who has no respect for the people, the Constitution, or the regime should expect respect from us!

Today, I respectfully salute all the deputies who made our Party proud with their patriotic and nation-loving stance.

Let it not be forgotten that no citizen of ours has the right or legal standing to legitimize Erdoğan and the Palace regime! However, there is a responsibility to fight!”
