Zeren Ertaş, a student staying at the KYK Güzelhisar Girls' Dormitory in Işıklı, Aydın, became trapped and lost her life after the dormitory elevator she was riding in with 15 of her friends plummeted. The other 15 students in the elevator were injured.

Following Zeren's loss, many segments of society, especially students, took to the streets and gathered in front of dormitories to protest the situation.

"IF YOU'RE AFRAID, DON'T TAKE THE ELEVATOR"

Students at the Sinop Seyyid İbrahim Bilal KYK Dormitory held a protest, seeking justice for their fellow student. The dormitory director reacted to the protesting students by saying, "If you're afraid, if you think it will crash, then don't take the elevator."

The dormitory director's scandalous remarks became a major topic of discussion. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made a notable post on his X account regarding the matter.

“This arrogance, this insolence has cost one of our children her life. Whoever is responsible for the death of our daughter Zeren; whoever has any fault, negligence, or incompetence, they will all be held accountable. No one and no office is greater than the beautiful children of this country.”
