Killer of teacher Fatma Nur Çelik appears in court for the first time: Victim children did not want to face him

Furkan Samet Bakalım, who stabbed and killed biology teacher Fatma Nur Çelik and injured 2 teachers and one student in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul, appeared in court for the first time facing a potential 126-year prison sentence. The hearing was adjourned because the victim children did not want to face the defendant.

The incident occurred at the Borsa İstanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Çekmeköy. Furkan Samet Bakalım, 17, stabbed biology teacher Fatma Nur Çelik (44), teacher Z.A. (52), and his 15-year-old student S.K. Upon notification, health and police teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to the hospital; Fatma Nur Çelik lost her life despite all interventions. It was reported that the other two injured individuals are in good condition.

DEFENDANT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND ARRESTED

Furkan Samet Bakalım was taken into custody at the scene after carrying out the attack. He was arrested by the duty judge and sent to prison. Bakalım is being tried for murder and assault.

THEY DID NOT WANT TO FACE THE DEFENDANT

In the case heard at the Juvenile High Criminal Court, the statements of the victim children and their families were taken. The victim children stated that they did not want to face the defendant and gave their statements first. The defendant was present in the courtroom with the door behind him left ajar while he listened to the victims' statements. The victims left the courtroom after giving their statements, and the defendant was then brought into the room. The hearing was adjourned for 3 days to hear witnesses.

126-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE REQUESTED FOR THE DEFENDANT

In the prepared indictment, a total of up to 126 years in prison was requested for Furkan Samet Bakalım for the crimes of 'premeditated murder of a woman with monstrous intent', 'attempted premeditated murder of a child with monstrous intent', and 'attempted premeditated murder of a person due to their public duty with monstrous intent'.
