KVKK scandal: Were union membership details leaked?
The union membership details shared on social media by Fernas Mining General Manager Serkan Güncü have reinforced allegations that information is being leaked from the Ministry of Labor to employers.
A post on the social media platform X by the Independent Mine Workers Union (Bağımsız Maden İş Sendikası) has exposed a serious scandal that threatens the trade union freedoms of workers in Turkey.
The post stated that Fernas Mining General Manager Serkan Güncü shared a union membership record with the public. This information has raised allegations that private data stored in the systems of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (Ministry of Labor) is being leaked to employers.
The Independent Mine Workers Union described this situation as "a major threat to the trade union freedoms of all workers in Turkey" and called on all unions, journalists, political parties, and the public to pursue this scandal.
Furthermore, it was stated that the Ministry of Labor must issue a statement to investigate the accuracy of the accusations regarding the leakage of union information and to provide a clear explanation to the public.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF LABOR AND SOCIAL SECURITY ON 'MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION'
The Ministry of Labor and Social Security announced that there are unfounded allegations on some social media accounts regarding the 'sharing of union membership information with employers.'
In a post made from the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, it was stated: “There are unfounded allegations on some social media accounts regarding the 'sharing of union membership information with employers.' The format of the membership record in question, which was shared from the social media account of the General Manager of a private mining company, does not belong to the Authorization Determination Automation System of our Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Furthermore, no employer has authorization to access any document located in our Ministry's system.
The records in the shared format are membership information printouts that can only be obtained by authorized users of unions and union member employees themselves via their own e-Government passwords through the e-Government Portal,” it said.
