KYK dorms to be monitored

CHP Deputy Chair Sevgim Kılıç shared the working report of the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK) Monitoring Commission. The report states that the rights violations suffered by students staying in KYK dorms will be tracked and draws attention to the problems experienced in the dormitories. It was also announced that a whistleblower hotline will be established by the CHP Youth Branches.

Deputy Chair Kılıç shared the findings of the KYK Monitoring Commission report created by her party and announced that they are launching a process to track those responsible for violations and negligence and to take the necessary steps.

"We will personally track and investigate rights violations, negligence, and instances of poor management"

In a written statement, Kılıç noted the following;

“The KYK Dormitories Monitoring Commission, which we established within the Office of the Deputy Chair for Youth and Sports and which consists of our Party Assembly members and deputies, will personally track and investigate rights violations, negligence, and instances of poor management in KYK dormitories and offer solutions. Furthermore, the whistleblower hotline to be established by our Youth Branches will identify those reporting non-compliant situations and intervene in problems immediately. We will evaluate the demands, suggestions, and complaints of students, families, and staff staying in the dorms, and we will inform the public at regular intervals through reports. I would like to announce that we are launching a process where those responsible for violations and negligence will be tracked and the necessary steps will be taken.”

Along with Kılıç's statement, the commission's one-month report regarding KYK dormitories was also shared.

The report included the following findings:

"-On December 3, Mine Nur Uysal, who was staying at the KYK student dormitory in Aksaray, lost her life in a traffic accident while crossing the street in front of the dormitory. Students staying at the dorm said that similar accidents had occurred and that they had repeatedly requested the installation of an overpass or lighting.


Within the last month:

-Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences 4th-year student Zeren Ertaş lost her life on October 25 due to an elevator collapse at the Aydın Güzelhisar Girls' Dormitory.

-October 27, Mersin Kırkkaşık Girls' Dormitory: The elevators, which are said to be regularly maintained, are faulty and not working. Students are constantly experiencing the danger of falling.

-October 28, Kastamonu Baharzade Feride Hanım Girls' KYK Dormitory: The elevator fell 2 floors while young people were inside.

-October 28, Bartın Ağdacı KYK Dormitory: The elevator crashed to the ground from the 3rd floor.

-October 28, Giresun Esma Serhat Hatun KYK Dormitory: The elevator fell from the 8th floor to the 5th floor.

-October 30, Çorum İskilipli Atıf Hoca Girls' KYK Dormitory: The elevator is faulty; one of our young students was stuck in the elevator.

-November 2, Gümüşhane Zeynep Ana KYK Dormitory: The elevator fell from the 5th floor to the 3rd floor.

-November 2, Konya KYK Dormitory: Young people were stuck between floors due to the elevator falling. Students said they had reported it multiple times.

-November 2, Nevşehir Ayşe Humasah Sultan KYK Dormitory: The elevator, which three of our friends were inside, fell from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor.

-November 4, Muş Sultan Alparslan Girls' KYK: The elevator, which had 3 young people inside, fell.

-November 5, Rize Ayder KYK: The elevator, which our friends were inside, fell; the young people were taken to the hospital.

-October 28, Kars Sarıkamış 100. Yıl Şehitler KYK Dormitory: Elevators are insufficient and faulty.

-October 28, Istanbul Fatih Sultan Mehmet KYK Dormitory: Elevators are not working, and the elevator problem is not being solved.

-October 30, Siirt Hassa Hatun Girls' KYK Dormitory: Elevators have been closed for days. Although faults were reported to the dormitory administration, students have been stuck in the elevator multiple times over the years.

-November 2, Karaman Hatuniye KYK Dormitory: While there are only two elevators in a dormitory for two thousand people, both are faulty.

-November 2, Eskişehir Bala Hatun Girls' KYK Dormitory: Every time it rains, water leaks from the elevators and the elevator malfunctions. The dormitory management does nothing about a solution.

-November 4, Eşref Bitlis KYK Dormitory: In the same dormitory, young people have been stuck in the elevator 3 times in 1 week. The dormitory management brushes the students off by saying the power went out.

-November 6, Istanbul Esenyurt Girls' KYK Dormitory: There are elevators with red labels available to students. They kept them closed for a week, saying they were repairing them.

-November 6, Eskişehir Bala Hatun KYK: A snake appeared in the cafeteria where students eat and in front of the cafeteria.

-November 7, Iğdır Suveren Aybüke Öğretmen KYK Dormitory: A poisonous scorpion stung one of our friends in the dormitory, which opened 1.5 months ago. Although the elevators were problematic, they were left open until Zeren died; now they are completely closed.

-November 7, Muş Müştak Baba Boys' KYK, Esenyurt 1453 Girls' KYK, Kırklareli Evladı Fatihan Girls' KYK: In the images sent by our students, insects and caterpillars were seen in the food; worms were seen in the bread.

-November 8, Diyarbakır Selahaddin Eyyubi Boys' KYK Dormitory: The elevators have been broken for months. The elevator, which the dormitory management never repaired, fell. The young people got out of the elevator by their own efforts.

-November 9, Trabzon Doğu Karadeniz KYK Dormitory: Young people spent the night in the prayer room because the rooms were infested with mice. In the dormitory, where no pest control has been carried out despite repeated complaints, mice are appearing everywhere.

-November 9, Edirne Sultan Çelebi Mehmet KYK Dormitory: After the rain, water started to leak from the elevator door. Students said this had happened before.

-November 9, Uşak Latife Hanım KYK Dormitory: The problems never end. The entire dormitory is infested with insects. Although the food looks bloody, it is being served. The elevators are broken and are not being repaired. The management, which solved the problems when an inspection came to the dormitory a week ago, now does not see or hear the students.

-November 9, Zonguldak Nesibe Hatun Girls' KYK: 7 of our friends were poisoned on the same night. We learned that the young people who submitted petitions to the dormitory directorate multiple times for cleaning were told, "It might be the water, don't take a shower then.""
