Laiklik Meclisi supports academic Sayın in 'place of worship-shoes' debate: 'It is the reactionaries who should be investigated!'

Kadir Has University academic Zeliha Gizem Sayın and the 'place of worship-shoes' debate between her and students was reflected on social media. 

Support for academic Sayın, who became a target, came from the Laiklik Meclisi.

The statement made by the Laiklik Meclisi is as follows:

"It is unacceptable that academic Zeliha Gizem Sayın, who was subjected to provocative attempts after warning students for leaving shoes in the hallway in front of the place of worship and in front of her own office despite the fact that lockers had been allocated for shoes at Kadir Has University; who was the subject of a lynching campaign on social media; and who was targeted by TÜGVA, the pro-government press, and the Chief Advisor to the President, has been summoned to give a statement by the police.

Those who should be investigated are not the scientists of this country, but the reactionaries.

As the Laiklik Meclisi, we declare that we stand with our professor Zeliha Gizem Sayın.

We will continue to stand with our students and academics who defend science and secularism against reactionism in universities!"
