The Istanbul-Izmir Highway has been closed to traffic in both directions due to a landslide that occurred near the Turgutlu district of Manisa.
A mass of soil, which broke off from the higher elevations and reached tons in weight, slid onto the highway, rendering three lanes completely unusable.
Following the landslide in the area between Saruhanlı and Turgutlu, gendarmerie teams were quickly dispatched to the scene upon receiving reports.
While security measures have been increased to account for potential risks, traffic has been halted in both directions of the highway.
Cleanup and soil removal operations are continuing uninterrupted with heavy machinery directed to the area in order to reopen the highway to traffic.
