Following the death of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in an assassination in Tehran, a "red flag" symbolizing revenge was raised over the dome of the Jamkaran Mosque in the Iranian city of Qom. The red flag, which features the words "The revenge of Hussein" written in white Arabic script, is also known as the "flag of revenge." The flag was last hoisted on the mosque's dome in January 2024 following a terrorist attack in the Iranian city of Kerman.
Two explosions occurred on the road leading to the cemetery in Kerman on January 3, during a memorial ceremony held for the 4th anniversary of the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani in a US strike in Baghdad in January 2020.
In the suicide bombings, which were claimed by the terrorist organization ISIS, 89 people, including women and children, lost their lives, and 284 people were injured.
