Latest development in Iraq: Turkey signs 26 agreements

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani in Baghdad. 

At the meeting held at the Government Palace, 24 cooperation agreements were signed in various fields such as trade, tourism, education, health, security, science and technology, investment, youth, and sports. Furthermore, Erdoğan and Al Sudani signed the "Framework Agreement for Cooperation in the Field of Water between the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the Republic of Turkey" and the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Framework."

Nuh Yılmaz, Head of the Center for Strategic Research, and Hussein Mansour Al-Safi, Dean of the Foreign Service Institute of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and the Foreign Service Institute of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nail Olpak, President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), and Abdulrazaq Al-Zuheere, Chairman of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between DEİK and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce.

COOPERATION IN ISLAMIC AFFAIRS

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Presidential State Archives of the Republic of Turkey and the National Library and Archives of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Uğur Ünal, Head of State Archives, and Prof. Dr. Alaa Abo Alhassan Esmaıl, Director General of Cultural Affairs at the National Library and Archives of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities of the Republic of Iraq.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Islamic Affairs between the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and the Sunni Endowment Diwan of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Ali Erbaş, President of Religious Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Mishan Muhyi Alwan, President of the Sunni Endowment Diwan.

MEMORANDUM SIGNED FOR THE INDUSTRIAL SECTOR

Fahrettin Altun, Presidential Communications Director, and Dr. Ali Hussein Al-Moayyed, Chairman of the Iraqi Communications and Media Commission, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Iraq.

Haluk Görgün, President of Defense Industries, and Mustafa Ati Hassan, Chairman of the Iraqi Defense Industries Commission, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in the Defense Industry between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) of the Republic of Turkey and the Defense Industries Commission (DIC) of the Republic of Iraq.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Jasim Al-Asadi signed a "Memorandum of Understanding in the Fields of Employment and Social Security" between the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Iraq.

Fidan and Al-Asadi also signed Memoranda of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Family and Social Services of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Iraq.

COOPERATION WILL ALSO BE CONDUCTED IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION

The "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Education" between the Ministries of National Education of the two countries was signed by Foreign Minister Fidan and Iraqi Minister of Education Dr. Ibrahim Namis Al-Jubouri.

The "Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Tourism" between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Foreign Minister Fidan and Iraqi Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Prof. Dr. Ahmed Fakak Ahmed.

The "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Energy" between the two countries was signed by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and Iraqi Minister of Electricity Zeyad Ali Fadhil Al-Rzage.

The "Security Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding" between the Ministries of Interior of the two countries was signed by Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdulameer K. Alshimary.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and Iraqi Minister of Health Dr. Salih Mahdi Al-Hasnawi signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Health and Medical Sciences between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Iraq.

MILITARY HEALTH AND TRAINING

The Memorandum of Understanding on Military Training Cooperation between the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and Iraqi Minister of Defense Thabit Muhammad Saeed Al-Abbasi.

Güler and Al-Abbasi also signed the "Protocol on Training and Cooperation in the Field of Military Health" between the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq.

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır and Chairman of the Iraqi National Investment Commission Dr. Haider Mohammed Makkiyah signed the Agreement on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments between the two countries.

A Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Fields of Youth and Sports was signed between the youth and sports ministries of the two countries by Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır and Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mubarka.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration (KOSGEB) of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey and the General Directorate of Industrial Development of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır and Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals Prof. Dr. Khalid B. Al-Najim.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation between the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır and Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi.

ACTION PLAN PREPARED

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı and Iraqi Minister of Agriculture Abbas Jabr Al-Ali Al-Maliki signed the Turkey-Iraq Agricultural Working Group 2024-2025 Action Plan.

A Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Joint Economic and Trade Committee between the trade ministries of the two countries was signed by Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and Iraqi Minister of Trade Atheer Dawood Salman Al Ghurairi.

Minister of Trade Bolat and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Tamim signed the Protocol on the Establishment of a Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism in the Fields of Product Safety and Technical Barriers to Trade between the two countries.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation regarding the Judicial Training of Students, Judges, and Prosecutor Candidates of the Justice Academy of Turkey and the Iraqi Judicial Institute between the Justice Academy of Turkey and the Judicial Institute of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Iraq was signed by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and Director General of the Iraqi Judicial Institute Faten Mohsen Hadi.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu and Iraqi Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Development Road between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Iraq.
