Lawsuit filed against Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu and board members
A lawsuit has been filed seeking the removal of Istanbul Bar Association President Kaboğlu and 10 board members from office and the election of a new administration.
A formal indictment has been prepared seeking the removal of Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu and Board Members Rukiye Leyla Süren, Hürrem Sönmez, Ahmet Ergin, Metin İriz, Mehmedali Barış Beşli, Yelda Koçak Urfa, Fırat Epözdemir, Ezgi Şahin Yalvarıcı, Ekrem Bilen Selimoğlu, and Bengisu Kadı Çavdar from their posts, as well as the election of a new bar president and board members.
A lawsuit has been filed against the bar president and board members at the Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance.
Additionally, authorization for prosecution has been requested from the Ministry of Justice on charges of engaging in terrorist organization propaganda.
WHAT IS REQUESTED IN THE INDICTMENT?
The indictment emphasizes that the Istanbul Bar Association Presidency and its Board of Directors have been operating outside of their intended purpose. The prosecution has requested that the duties of the Istanbul Bar Association Board members and President İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu be terminated in accordance with the 5th paragraph of Article 77 of the Attorneys' Law No. 1136, titled "Establishment of the Bar, removal of its organs from duty, and termination of their duties," and that a new Bar President and Board members be elected in their place.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had initiated an ex officio investigation into Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu and the board members on charges of "engaging in terrorist organization propaganda" and "publicly disseminating misleading information to the public."
