Lawsuit filed against former Intelligence Department Head Sabri Uzun for 'insulting' Erdoğan

A lawsuit has been filed against Sabri Uzun, the former head of the Turkish National Police Intelligence Department, seeking a prison sentence ranging from 1 year and 8 months to 6 years and 8 months on charges of "publicly degrading the Turkish nation" and "publicly insulting the President" due to his social media posts about President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that an investigation was launched after it was determined that Uzun's social media posts contained criminal elements.

The indictment noted that in his statement to the police, Uzun confirmed the post belonged to him and explained that he was addressing aid materials sent to Israel from ports both domestically and abroad. He further stated that the companies sending these shipments were private entities operating both within Turkey and internationally.

The indictment, which was sent to the Criminal Court of First Instance for evaluation, has been accepted.
