Lawyer announces: New development regarding Ege Akersoy!

Yıldız Technical University 4th-year student Ege Akersoy, who punched İsmail Aydemir for carrying a 'Tawhid' flag during a pro-Palestine march organized by foundations and associations close to the AKP on the Istanbul Galata Bridge, was arrested after being taken into custody.

Akersoy's lawyer, Ali Öztürk, visited his client at Marmara Prison. According to a report by Tele1, lawyer Öztürk stated, “We will file our appeal this afternoon. If the result is negative, we will wait for the indictment to be prepared.”

Stating that Akersoy wants to be released as soon as possible to finish his studies, Öztürk said, “If this incident had not been reflected on social media, he would certainly not have even been referred to the courthouse, let alone arrested.”

Öztürk noted the following:

“His final exams begin between the 8th and the 18th, and he is a senior student. This could cost him a year of his life. He feels great discomfort and sadness that it has been portrayed this way on social media.

There is nothing in Ege's act that would incite the public to hatred and hostility. No danger occurred at that moment, nor was there any possibility of one, but the various posts made by different segments from the moment he was taken into custody brought the incident to this point. Ultimately, he did not act as a pioneer of a cause or an ideology.”
