Lawyer for 'whistleblower' in IMM investigation turns out to be AKP's Birinci: 'I would also be İmamoğlu's lawyer'

In a YouTube broadcast by journalist Barış Terkoğlu, AKP member Mücahit Birinci claimed that he is the lawyer for Murat Kapki, who was arrested as part of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) investigation.

Noting that he received this information and reached out to him, Terkoğlu said, "I asked him if he was acting as a lawyer for anyone in the IMM file. He told me this: He is acting as the lawyer for Murat Kapki."

CONFIRMATION OF ALLEGATIONS FROM AKP'S BİRİNCİ

Following the allegation in question, AKP member Mücahit Birinci confirmed the 'power of attorney relationship' in a post on his social media account.

Stating, "Dear friends; Barış Terkoğlu's statements regarding my power of attorney relationship are correct," Birinci continued his statement with the following remarks:

"I will only add to this part. I am one of Turkey's well-known lawyers, therefore anyone who wants to meet with me can do so.

My rule, which is that it cannot happen without it, for meeting with a suspect who had already given statements three times before me to benefit from effective remorse, is a formal power of attorney.

The suspect issued the power of attorney and he was met with. That is all there is to the matter.

Finally, let me state this without mincing words. If Ekrem İmamoğlu were to seek effective remorse in the scope of the IMM file and give his statements clearly and truthfully, I would meet with him as well, provided he issues a power of attorney, and I would be his lawyer, and I would not be bothered by that at all."
