Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz files compensation lawsuit against Soner Yalçın

In the lawsuit petition, it was stated that the columns written by Soner Yalçın on the news website ODA TV under the pseudonym “Hürrem Elmasçı” on January 26, 2026, January 29, 2026, and February 3, 2026, violated Ersöz's personal rights, “contained expressions reaching the level of insult and slander,” and were “intended to disparage his private life and professional reputation.” A total of 1,050,000.00 TL in non-pecuniary damages was requested, with 350,000.00 TL demanded for each article separately.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz had previously alleged that Soner Yalçın himself was behind the articles written for a long time under the name “Hürrem Elmasçı.” Following this, the latest article published under the Elmasçı signature used the headline “Hüseyin Ersöz’s FETÖ makeup is wearing off.” The article leveled serious accusations regarding Ersöz’s past and professional activities.

Following this article, Hüseyin Ersöz announced in a statement on his social media account that he had ended his attorney-client relationship with Soner Yalçın:

“I parted ways last Friday with my client, whom I knew as Soner Yalçın 15 years ago and defended in courts, and who ‘turned into Hürrem’ 15 years later. I have submitted my resignation petitions for the cases in which I still represent him. It is clear that my no longer being his lawyer has bothered him. I hope he can defend the insults he has made in the lawsuits I have filed against him ‘without hiding behind the name Hürrem.’”

In his statement, Ersöz also made the following emphasis regarding the IMM (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality) case:

“As his lawyer, I may not have been able to teach him how to be a moral person. But if he explains the ‘things he did to lift his judicial control’ in the IMM case, I am sure what he says will be very instructive for both legal professionals and politicians!”

Hüseyin Ersöz also reiterated his criticisms regarding the judicial control measures applied in the case known in the public eye as the “IMM Trial,” reminding that the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court had lifted the travel ban on Soner Yalçın on its own initiative without any request. Ersöz stated that despite applications made for journalists Yavuz Oğhan, Ruşen Çakır, Batuhan Çolak, and Şaban Sevinç, who were involved in the same case, their judicial control measures had not been lifted.
