Lawyer Onur Cingil's call to authorities regarding 'detained youth': A decision must be made immediately

19-year-old university student and Republican People's Party (CHP) Youth Branch Board Member Irmak Uyan was detained as part of the Saraçhane protests and remained in custody for a period of time.

Uyan, who recounted her experiences during this period to 12punto along with her lawyer Onur Cingil, had shared what she went through during the detention and arrest process.

Lawyer Onur Cingil, who made assessments regarding the process to 12punto, pointed to the situation of the youth who are still in detention in his latest social media post.

Cingil issued a call to the authorities in his social media post and used the following expressions:

"I am speaking to the authorities, politicians, and the public with the responsibility of a lawyer.

Among the young people who were unjustly arrested during the Saraçhane process, 14 YOUTH WHO COULD NOT BE RELEASED ARE STILL IN DETENTION ON THE SLANDER OF INSULTING THE PRESIDENT.

Today was the hearing for the case regarding the meeting and demonstration march for which they were released. HOWEVER, UNFORTUNATELY, THEY ARRIVED IN CUSTODY.

The reason is that the Ministry of Justice has not yet made a decision on whether they SHOULD BE TRIED or SHOULD NOT BE TRIED for the crime of insulting the President, so their files ARE WAITING AT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE STAGE.

The Ministry of Justice must make a decision immediately, and their files must progress. Everyone needs to take an interest in this matter."
