All eyes in the CHP are turned to the convention case on September 15. What is being discussed in the corridors of the AKP ahead of the critical case has leaked from the backstage.

Nefes columnist Nuray Babacan shared the information she obtained in her article titled "Let it not be like March 19."

"It is not expected that there will be a negative ruling regarding the case concerning the CHP convention on September 15 in the ruling party's corridors, and the indictment regarding the last CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress is being interpreted as 'forced'," said Nuray Babacan, continuing as follows:

"We know that among the members of the ruling party, there are those who look at the allegations of bribery to delegates regarding both the CHP convention and the subsequent CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress from a 'legal perspective' and find them wrong. Their voices, though weak, are heard from time to time. However, there are those who look at these two cases entirely in terms of their own well-being. The bill for the economic blow of the political operation carried out against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and his colleagues on March 19, 2025, is being recalled.

Comments are being made such as, 'While efforts are being made to get economic indicators back on track with difficulty, a step that would mean closing the main opposition party would destroy the economy. If another March 19-style blow occurs, the economy will not be able to handle it...' Claiming that there are also AKP members who think the process works in favor of the CHP and Özgür Özel, Babacan added the following:

"These figures comment that the CHP administration is gaining strength and resilience, and that party members are bonding with each other. Another situation is the realization that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, whom the ruling party was pinning its hopes on, is not as strong as thought. Everyone knows that those who acted with Kılıçdaroğlu in the past have distanced themselves from him because they did not take a clear stance on issues like the appointment of a trustee to the party and adopted an approach of 'we'll see if it comes to that.' Kılıçdaroğlu, who cannot create a bloc movement in the party, seems to have lost much of his appeal for AKP members.

Ultimately, the question asked by AKP members who think they will not come out ahead in terms of both economy and politics is interesting: 'So who is deciding all of this?' The answer comes from another party member; 'Those who are uncomfortable with the positive atmosphere created regarding the CHP convention are trying to open a new rift...'

The interpretation of some AKP lawyers is, 'The new indictment prepared regarding the Istanbul provincial congress will not have an effect on the current case on September 15. However, if it turns out that an irregularity was committed during the congress process, the fact that the congress was held again does not eliminate the crime; that will be processed separately...'"
