Left disabled in a traffic accident, he became a clown: He dedicated himself to making children smile

After being left physically disabled following a traffic accident in 2010, Fırat Arsunar (35) dedicated himself to making children smile. Following his rehabilitation process, Arsunar began volunteering as a clown from his wheelchair and has been bringing smiles to faces for over 10 years. Explaining that he is also interested in bodybuilding and swimming, Arsunar said that he overcame obstacles by socializing and that his dream is to continue carrying out beautiful projects for other disabled individuals. Arsunar also stated that being a smile on children's faces is the greatest legacy he could earn in the world.

Describing the process of how he started clowning, Arsunar said, "As a result of the traffic accident I had in 2010, I was left paralyzed from the neck down. While I had no control over my neck at all, thanks to sports, volunteer clowning, and physical therapy, I had the chance to bring my body to a certain level; I developed and strengthened it. Volunteer clowning is heavier and more difficult for me than it is for myself.

It became a key door for our children who cannot go outside. I entered through this door and saw incredible beauties. The thing that clowning has given me the most is the chance to be in unity and solidarity with our children who are in a more difficult situation than me and cannot leave the house. At the same time, I have also had the chance to be a smile on their faces. I think this is one of the greatest legacies I can earn in this world," he said.

Stating that as Volunteer Clowns they make visits to institutions such as oncology departments, children's homes, and nursing homes, Arsunar said, "At the same time, I am also by the side of my other unhindered brothers and sisters. Developing beautiful projects for them and living in unity, solidarity, and support for one another is one of my biggest plans," he stated.

Noting that he did not have any thoughts of being a clown before his accident, Arsunar said, "The greatest of the things this chair has given me is clowning. Because my teammates have an unhindered mindset, we can overcome every obstacle together everywhere.

We are not just talking about my disability here. We are also changing other mental obstacles in our path in this way. It is beautiful for me that people start to think, 'This person became a clown, this person is swimming, why can't we do it?'" he added.

"70 PERCENT OF TREATMENT IS SOCIALIZING"

Arsunar also noted that socializing plays a major role in the physical rehabilitation process. Describing socializing and coming together with other people as overcoming a major obstacle, Arsunar said, "Socializing means overcoming a major obstacle. When you start thinking about things that don't exist in your head, you cannot socialize.

But if you socialize, you can shape where you can overcome which disability situation. In fact, 60-70 percent of physical therapy is mental, it is socializing. They used to try to get me out of the house, now they are trying to get me back in," he expressed.
