A letter from Murat Çalık in prison

Imprisoned Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık wrote a letter from Buca Prison to CHP Tuzla Council Member Erdal Yasin Tüysüz regarding his health condition.

According to Sözcü, Çalık stated in his letter that despite drinking plenty of water, he has very little need to use the restroom, and included the following remarks:

“YOUR PRAYERS BRING ME PEACE”

“I am trying to protect my health. I am grateful for your prayers, may God be pleased with you. Believe me, your prayers bring me peace. It is very hot here, and I do not use the courtyard much. I cannot remember how many times a day I sweat and dry off.”

“DESPITE DRINKING WATER…”

“Despite drinking water, I almost have no need to use the restroom. I insist on drinking water so that my kidneys keep working. Take care of yourselves, may God protect you, and do not withhold your prayers.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

Çalık, who has undergone cancer treatment twice and was hospitalized again while in prison, was found to have a suspicion of lymphoma during a bone marrow biopsy. For Mayor Çalık, who underwent surgery, the Council of Forensic Medicine had decided that his health condition did not constitute an obstacle to him remaining in prison.
