A letter from Tayfun Kahraman's daughter Vera: 'Dad, I hope they let you go soon'

Meriç Kahraman, the wife of Tayfun Kahraman, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison as part of the Gezi Park trial, shared a letter their 5-year-old daughter Vera wrote to her father on her social media account.

Meriç Kahraman stated, "Vera has learned her firsts in life apart from her father, Tayfun Kahraman, always with a bit of sadness. Vera has learned most of all to miss her father. But for 2.5 years, neither Vera nor Turkey has been able to learn: What is Tayfun Kahraman's crime?"

WHAT IS TAYFUN KAHRAMAN'S CRIME?

In her post, Kahraman noted the following:

"Vera is 5 years old. She has been waiting for her father to come home for 2.5 years. She got out of her high chair and learned to eat. She learned to go to the bathroom by herself. She learned to draw. She learned to ride a bike. She learned to write her first and last name. She is just learning to read. She learned to do homework. She learned her firsts in life apart from her father, Tayfun Kahraman, always with a bit of sadness. She learned to be eager to show her father everything she learned, and to have that eagerness cut short. Vera asks in her letter, 'I won't go to school next week, I'll come to you, Dad. Will they let me do a cartwheel there? If you saw it, would you like it, Dad?' Vera has learned most of all to miss her father. But for 2.5 years, neither Vera nor Turkey has been able to learn: What is Tayfun Kahraman's crime?"

'WOULD THEY LET ME DO A CARTWHEEL AND A HANDSTAND THERE?'

The letter, which Meriç Kahraman stated was written by her daughter Vera, included the following expressions:

"My dear daddy, I love you very much, I miss you so much. Since school has started, I can't come to talk on the phone anymore. I miss you so much then, too. I won't go to school next week, I will come to you to have breakfast with you. Dad, it's almost time for you to come home, isn't it? Daddy, it has really been a very long time since you came home. Do you know that I can do a cartwheel and a handstand now? I would have loved to show you. Mom says you are doing very well, but I don't know what you would say. Do you think they would let me do a cartwheel and a handstand when I come there?

Daddy, did you miss me too? It feels like this is the first time it has been this long. You asked about school on the phone; it's going very well, I already love school. I have homework now, and I do it with Mom. Don't worry.

Dad, I hope they let you go soon. There is nothing I can do other than write letters and draw pictures. But I truly wish for you to come home right away every night when I go to sleep. I love you very much."
