28-year-old Leyla Akay, who lives in Iğdır, filed for both divorce and a lawsuit regarding the knife attacks after being assaulted by her 38-year-old husband Sinan Akay, a security guard at a KYK dormitory.

Leyla Akay, who learned that her husband was cheating on her with the wife of his uncle's son, was subjected to a knife attack by Sinan Akay, who wanted to take the audio recordings she had in her possession.

Leyla Akay, who was repeatedly attacked with a knife by her husband but for whom no arrest warrant was issued despite her filing complaints, told 12punto about what she went through.

'THE FILE IS IN THE APPELLATE COURT'

Leyla Akay described the process of filing for divorce and being subjected to the knife attack with these words:

“I filed for divorce. The reason for his first stabbing was that he wanted to take the audio recording and I wouldn't give it to him. In the case, there was also 'deprivation of liberty,' but they didn't process that. They only included the stabbing. In the first court there, he received a 10-month prison sentence. Sinan appealed, and our file is in the appellate court. Even though there were three medical reports of battery before the stabbing, and even though there were photos of him with women. He constantly threatens me with taking the children.”

'SIX KNIFE WOUNDS'

Leyla Akay, who was attacked with a knife again by Sinan Akay on June 3, stated: “On June 3, he called me to talk. Then he called me; I thought he couldn't do anything near the courthouse. He called his lawyer in my presence. 'I am giving custody to Leyla. I want to reach an agreement,' he said. Then I wanted to get out of the car; he subjected me to violence for three hours while the car was in motion. When I wanted to get out, I received a knife wound on my right shoulder; out of fear, I closed the door again. There are six knife wounds. He was driving with his left hand; I took the knife and threw it away. I know I swallowed cologne so I wouldn't pass out,” she said.

'THERE IS HOUSE ARREST, BUT NO ANKLE MONITOR'

Speaking about the aftermath of the attack, Leyla Akay said the following:

“The prosecutor is requesting a sentence for five separate crimes. I am very grateful to her. It was the female prosecutor who filed the objection. The judge who released him first was Nilüfer Hanım. With the prosecutor's objection, he was placed under house arrest on June 3. House arrest was given, and there is no ankle monitor.”

SHE ALSO WENT TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

Leyla Akay also stated that she met with the Deputy Governor of Iğdır before the attack, but received the response, 'We cannot do anything,' and was directed to the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

Leyla Akay, who also went to the police station, reported that a police officer said, “We are so tired of Sinan Akay. We arrest him and take him in, they release him. We are fed up with him now.”

'HE WALKS AROUND THE MARKET FREELY'

Leyla Akay's cousin, Azer Kayla, stated that Sinan Akay is the child of an influential family in Iğdır and said, "The prosecutor is requesting protection. A prosecutor whom I know is a woman. She is doing her job at a tremendous level. The Peace Criminal Judge, whom we know as the Governor's wife, does not arrest him despite so much concrete evidence. The prosecutor requests an arrest 3 times, but no arrest is issued.

The Peace Criminal Court has a definition of occurrence; it is convinced that these were committed, but says that his address is not here. It releases him with judicial control. The prosecutor has a struggle; she objects, saying there are issues like evidence tampering and you cannot release him; this time they release him with house arrest. He walks around the market freely,” she said.

Stating that she took the matter to social media when she heard about the personal relationships, Kayla said, “There is a Peace Criminal Judge who does not arrest the person the prosecutor is trying to have arrested. No one is above the law. Institutions that did not look at Leyla's face started calling Leyla once it was shared on social media. They keep taking him to the police station; the next day the Ministry of Family came. Where were you until yesterday? He is taking her to kill her. He continues to beat her while in the vehicle,” she said.

“He is currently in custody, but there are 2 arrest warrants that the Peace Court clearly did not issue. He is currently in custody for only one crime. Who has been imprisoned for violence against women? A man who has committed 50 crimes. There is evidence for these as well. Is there a possibility that you do not have the evidence that I have? When she appeared on all the television channels, Leyla's backing became stronger. They took him in hastily now. They are taking him again with the prosecutor's objection. We learn later that he had probation. We don't know how many closed files he has.”
