The lifeless body of Prof. Dr. Orhan Ekren, who was reported missing in the UK in November, has been found in the Regent's Canal in London.
Prof. Dr. Orhan Ekren's wife, Banu Ekren, announced that the Turkish academic's lifeless body was found in London's Regent's Canal.
Ekren stated that her husband's body was found near the last location signal received from a phone application the family used to track each other's locations.
According to the information shared by Ekren, on December 15, a municipal cleaning worker reported that a lifeless body had been found in the Regent's Canal, which passes through London's Camden district.
Explaining that the police sent photos to the family for identification following the report made at 10:00 AM local time (1:00 PM Turkish time), Ekren noted that the identification process was completed on December 17.
HELP HAD BEEN REQUESTED FROM EYEWITNESSES
Ekren added that autopsy procedures are ongoing in the UK and that the funeral ceremony will be held in the Torbalı district of İzmir after Orhan Ekren's body is released.
It had been announced that Prof. Dr. Ekren, who lived in Milton Keynes near the capital London, went missing in the evening hours in London's Camden district, where he had gone on November 26.
The London Metropolitan Police had provided information that the canal was searched twice to find Ekren, whose phone last gave a signal by the side of the Regent's Canal.
Ekren's backpack and wet clothes were found on the canal bank, and it was observed that his belongings had not been taken from his bag.
The police had requested help from eyewitnesses to find Ekren.
