Long-awaited statement on driver's license amnesty from Ali Yerlikaya!

While claims regarding a driver's license amnesty have recently been on the agenda, a statement on the matter has come from Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya.

Emphasizing that a driver's license amnesty is not on the agenda, Yerlikaya stated, "As of April 19, 2025, the number of drivers whose licenses have been temporarily suspended and not yet returned is 689,946." he said.

The statement made by Yerlikaya on his X account is as follows:

"I want to state this clearly and unequivocally: The issue of a 'driver's license amnesty' is absolutely not on our agenda. As of April 19, 2025, the number of drivers 'whose licenses have been temporarily suspended and not yet returned' is 689,946. So, why were these drivers' licenses temporarily suspended?"

Because;

The licenses of 499,088 drivers were suspended because;

They were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,

They refused the breathalyzer test;

The licenses of 28,461 drivers were suspended because;

They accumulated 100 penalty points within one year,

They committed speeding violations 5 times within one year,

They ran red lights 3 times,

They engaged in drifting, and

They possessed illegal emergency light systems;

The licenses of 162,397 drivers were suspended because;

They were temporarily suspended due to judicial proceedings (involvement in fatal/injury traffic accidents, health conditions, etc.).

Behind every practice that leads to the temporary suspension of driver's licenses today, there is a very clear reality. That is:

Severe violations that disregard traffic safety. Serious irresponsibility that can lead to loss of life and property.

Our concern is not to take punitive action; it is to prevent accidents and stop families from being devastated.

The measures we have taken are precautions aimed at ensuring peace and security on our roads and protecting lives.

Every inspection we conduct and every measure we take is to wipe away a mother's tears and prevent a child from being left orphaned.

And for this reason, we will never take a step back from our uncompromising stance against those who violate the rules."
