Lütfü Savaş visits Kılıçdaroğlu following 'absolute nullity' ruling: I am ready to take responsibility
Following the 'absolute nullity' ruling regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, former Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş, one of the figures who led the filing of the lawsuit, met with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the CHP Headquarters.
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş met with CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Savaş stated that he is ready to take on responsibility if assigned a task by the party.
Speaking after the meeting, Savaş noted that the visit was routine and stated that the lawsuit filed was not intended to target individuals. Savaş expressed that the basis for his objections regarding the congress process was the goal of preserving a sense of justice within the party.
"WE WILL COMPLY IF A JOINT DECISION IS REACHED"
Stating that the appeal filed with the Court of Cassation regarding the congress lawsuit was not on the agenda during the meeting, Savaş said that they could comply with a joint decision if a consensus is reached in the process. Savaş expressed that they are open to considerations regarding the withdrawal of the appeal if an agreement is formed between Kılıçdaroğlu and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.
Evaluating the police intervention that took place in front of the CHP Headquarters, Savaş stated that he was saddened that events had reached this point, arguing that both sides could have displayed a different attitude during the process.
"I WILL ACCEPT IF A TASK IS ASSIGNED"
Emphasizing that he has not made any request for a position within the party, Savaş said that he could, however, take on a responsibility deemed appropriate for him. Savaş commented, "If I am given a task where I can contribute to the party, I will accept it. However, I have no such expectation or rush at the moment."
Savaş, who lost the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality mayoral race in the March 31, 2024 local elections, was later referred to the disciplinary process by the CHP due to his subsequent statements and was expelled from the party in December 2024.
Following his expulsion, Savaş's application to file a lawsuit for the cancellation of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress was rejected by the court of first instance. However, following an appeal, the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice ruled for the cancellation of the congress on the grounds of "absolute nullity." Legal and political debates within the CHP continue following the decision.
