Lütfü Savaş, who filed the absolute nullity lawsuit, speaks out: We must bring hope to Turkey

The 36th Civil Chamber of the Regional Court of Justice has issued an 'absolute nullity' ruling regarding both the 38th Ordinary Congress and the 21st Extraordinary Congress of the CHP in a lawsuit filed for their cancellation.

A decision was made to reinstate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the party organs to their duties.

Lütfü Savaş, the former Mayor of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality who filed the lawsuit on the matter, evaluated the situation in Eskişehir, where he had arrived for his mother-in-law's funeral.

"It was the most important case in Turkish political history"

Speaking on the subject, Lütfü Savaş said, "First of all, may this decision be auspicious for our entire nation, all politicians in Turkey, and the political mechanism. This case began as follows: There were many speeches after the congress, and many congress delegates made speculative remarks about the issue. Then, a lawsuit regarding the congress was filed in Bursa. Later, our President referred to our Chairman four or five times as the chairman of a dubious congress. After that, our former chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu brought this issue up on a private television channel, stating that our President had referred to our Chairman as the chairman elected at a dubious congress.

Of course, this is a party entrusted to us by history. It is a party founded by a great oak that has won the love of 85 percent of this country's citizens, regardless of your political or world view; a party founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with the vision that it would be Turkey's political school on the battlefields. As someone who loves Atatürk and loves this country, I did not want such a cloud of suspicion to remain over my party. I thought that if there was any suspicion, the people involved should be cleared, and if not, no one should be allowed to tarnish our party. That is why I filed this lawsuit. Today, this case has concluded.

It was truly perhaps the most important case in Turkish political history. I think that after this case, we will experience many firsts in Turkey in terms of politics and political purification. But especially for the Republican People's Party family, whether you are friends currently supporting the existing administration or people who stood by our former Chairman Kemal Bey in the past, none of us should rejoice or cheer. From today on, it is a time for all of us to think with much greater responsibility about how we can bring the Republican People's Party to the grassroots, how we can prepare it for the future, how we can design it with a staff capable of overcoming Turkey's problems, and how we can revive the hopes of a society that carries despair."

"May it be auspicious for Turkish politics"

Continuing his speech, Lütfü Savaş included the following statements:

"When I filed this lawsuit, I thought most about the historical mission, legal understanding, democratic tradition, and transparency of the Republican People's Party, and I filed it thinking that this case was very important for it to become a party that can offer hope. May it be auspicious for Turkish democracy and Turkish political history, but I say that today is a day for people who will serve within our political party and hold important positions from now on, especially our Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, not to rejoice, but to think and take responsibility; I say once again, may it be auspicious for us all.

So, what role will be followed within the party as of tomorrow? I am not currently a member of the Republican People's Party. As you know, this administration pushed me out of the party because of a tweet I posted. Since all decisions taken in the past have been cancelled, I am, of course, proudly one of those who must protect the legacy of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

But the person who carries the main responsibility here is our Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Whatever planning and programming he does, we must, of course, comply with them and stand by him for better days. Of course, the slogan should be: We must carry the old good to the new good, and create a policy that embraces the whole of Turkey. For that, we need to prepare the ground well and, with good organization, bring hope back to Turkey and instill hope. Thank you. I thank you, and I say may it be auspicious."
