Major General Mete Kuş, who made headlines with F-16s flying over the stadium, has been retired

Following the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) decisions, Major General Mete Kuş, whose duty station was changed after flights during the Konyaspor-Fenerbahçe match, is retiring.

As part of the decisions announced following the Supreme Military Council meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Major General Mete Kuş was among those retired. It was reported that the decision will take effect as of August 30, 2026.

Kuş's name had come to the public's attention on April 21 due to F-16 fighter jets and Sikorsky helicopters flying over the stadium during the Konyaspor-Fenerbahçe match.

It was noted that the sound produced by the aircraft during the match was also reflected in the live broadcast. Following the incident, the flights over the stadium and a banner unfurled in the stands became a subject of debate.

HIS DUTY STATION HAD BEEN CHANGED

Following the match, Major General Mete Kuş was removed from his post as the Konya 3rd Main Jet Base and Garrison Commander and assigned to the Air Force Command Headquarters. Brigadier General Esat Çetin was appointed in his place.

In its statement regarding the change of duty, the Ministry of National Defense emphasized discipline, stating that the Turkish Armed Forces evaluates all events with a sense of discipline and that procedures are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation.
