Male body found on Greece's Samos Island identified as Turkish businessman
It has been confirmed via DNA testing that the male body found on Greece's Samos Island belongs to Yasin Cinkaya, a businessman from Denizli who had been missing since setting out to sea by boat from the Didim district of Aydın on December 13.
The family's lawyer, Harun Ümit Eren, stated in a written statement that it was suspected the male body found on the coast of Samos Island on December 17 could belong to Yasin Cinkaya, and that a DNA sample taken from his brother Yavuz Cinkaya was analyzed at the Izmir Council of Forensic Medicine.
Reporting that Yavuz Cinkaya traveled to Greece during this process to identify the body, Eren stated that the resulting DNA test results confirmed that the body belonged to Yasin Cinkaya.
Eren announced that Yasin Cinkaya's funeral will be held in Denizli on January 17 following the funeral prayer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The boat of Denizli businessman Yasin Cinkaya was found by fishermen near Eşek Island on the morning of December 14, and search efforts for Cinkaya, who could not be reached, had yielded no results. Greek authorities informed Interpol on December 17 that a male body had been found on the coast of Samos Island, and his brother Yavuz Cinkaya had traveled to Samos to identify the body.
