42-year-old Vedat Akrilik, who lives in the İskenderun district of Hatay, continues to be the center of attention in traffic with his electric unicycle scooter. With this unique mode of transport he acquired about a year ago, Akrilik, who can reach speeds of 30 km/h and has a range of 80 km, is respected by other drivers.
'THE FIRST WEEKS WERE DIFFICULT'
Regarding the process of getting used to his vehicle, Akrilik said, "I struggled quite a bit for the first week. It is something between a motorcycle and a bicycle. At first, people's reactions were also quite different; they would honk wildly and flash their lights. However, negative reactions were very rare; in general, I received support." During this process, a bicycle mirror he added to his glasses to improve his rear view has increased Akrilik's safety.
SAFE TRAVEL MEASURES
Pointing out that his vehicle has a range of 80 km and can reach a speed of 30 km/h, Akrilik stated, "When I go fast, dust can get in my eyes, so I try to protect myself. In dangerous moments, I proceed as far to the right and as slowly as possible. Stopping at a red light applies to everyone, and I also follow traffic rules."
SUPPORT FROM THE LOCAL PUBLIC
Akrilik's experience offers an interesting perspective not only for himself but also for other drivers around him. 45-year-old Hasan Şanal expresses his admiration when he sees Akrilik in traffic as follows:
"He is a very interesting friend. Going on one wheel is a different kind of excitement. We generally give priority to cyclists because they can get squeezed. The fact that he stops at red lights is also a very positive situation."
A NEW BREATH IN TRAFFIC
Vedat Akrilik is not only providing transportation with his electric unicycle scooter; he is also offering a different perspective to the people around him. He concluded his remarks by saying, "If we want to, we can do anything. There is nothing a person cannot do. This new experience is a wonderful journey for me."
