Man who fell from moving Metrobus recounts the terrifying moments

On December 3, around 15:00, a Metrobus heading toward Beylikdüzü in the Saadetdere area of Esenyurt was involved in an accident after a manhole cover it passed over dislodged and flew up. The manhole cover struck the door of the Metrobus, shattering it.

 At that moment, 34-year-old Emrah Aytiş, a father of two who was leaning against the door while traveling home, fell from the moving Metrobus onto the road and was injured. After receiving treatment at the hospital, where his shoulder and arm were placed in a cast, Aytiş was discharged and recounted the moments of that disaster.

"HE FOUND HIMSELF ON THE GROUND WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAPPENED"

Describing the moment of the accident, Emrah Aytiş said, "I boarded the Metrobus at 14:30 to go home from Bakırköy. At 15:00, near the Saadetdere stop, the manhole exploded while the Metrobus was in motion. There was an explosion from underneath. I didn't understand what kind of thing it was.

After that, both doors blew out. When the door blew out, it came off its hinges, and I was thrown to the ground at that moment. I don't remember anything after that. I waited for an ambulance at the scene for nearly 35-40 minutes. Then the ambulance picked me up and took me to the hospital.

"I NEVER IMAGINED IT, BUT IT HAPPENED TO ME"

 If I had thought something like this would happen, I wouldn't have stood by the door. Or rather, it doesn't cross one's mind that such a thing could happen. I was going to get off, so I moved toward the door. You know the Metrobus is very crowded; if you don't get to the door, you miss your stop. You end up going to another stop. That's why I had to come to the door. I also had my phone in my hand at that moment. 

When such a huge explosion happened, I couldn't hold on. I went straight out," he said.

"I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WHEN I RECOVER"

Stating that he suffered fractures in many parts of his body, Aytiş said, "I was going to go home, but I couldn't get off there. There is a suspicion of a fracture in my lower back. I have bruising on my arm. I also have a crack in my foot. 

Something that wouldn't happen to one in 10 million people happened to me. May God not let anyone experience this. I will file a complaint when I recover. Also, the Metrobus was going very fast," he said.
