He had beaten the woman he lived with in Manisa: Release decision overturned

In Manisa, the objection to the release decision for Yılmaz Akman, who beat 19-year-old Sude Naz Atak, with whom he lived in a religious marriage, in the middle of the street, has been accepted.

Akman had brutally attacked Atak on August 16 on Şehit Teğmen Tahir Ün Street in the Paşa neighborhood of the Akhisar district, and the fact that bystanders remained unresponsive had drawn attention.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

On the day of the incident, Yılmaz Akman began beating Sude Naz Atak in the middle of the street on the grounds that he could not convince her to go to the village.

Akman continued to punch Atak in the head after knocking her to the ground and struck her with a metal broom handle he had grabbed. During this time, the couple's 3-year-old son also witnessed the incident. Some people in the vicinity tried to intervene, but they backed away after Akman shouted at them. Sude Naz Atak cried out for help, saying, "Brother, I am pregnant, help!" A passerby and local shopkeepers managed to stop Akman and rescue Atak.

YILMAZ AKMAN HAD BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Following the incident, Yılmaz Akman was taken into custody, while Sude Naz Atak was taken to the hospital. A lawsuit was filed against Akman for the crimes of 'Intentional injury' and 'Public insult.' In the second hearing of the case held at the Akhisar 4th Criminal Court of First Instance, the defendant Akman admitted to the crime but distorted the situation, claiming that Atak was constantly beating him.

The court sentenced Akman to 9 months and 15 days in prison for 'Public insult' and 15 months for 'Intentional injury,' and released him under judicial control.

However, the Akhisar Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to the release on the grounds that Akman had previously committed violence against women. The prosecutor's objection was accepted by the higher court, and Akman's detention status continued.

I WAS SUBJECTED TO VIOLENCE MANY TIMES

Sude Naz Atak evaluated the court's decision. She said, “Yılmaz being released would not have been good for me or my child. I have been subjected to violence many times before in front of my child. My child's psychology was also affected. I grew up without a mother and father. I do not want my child to grow up this way. I believe that in order to prevent femicides, those who commit violence against women must be punished.”
