Mansur Yavaş addresses youth with a striking message: No one is indispensable
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated, "No one is extraordinary, indispensable, or superior."
At the "Purple Microphone" panel organized by the ABB Department of Women and Family Services and the Ankara City Council, he reminded young people that administrators are public servants. Yavaş emphasized that services lacking in urban life should be questioned and said the following:
“Dear young people, there are those who govern you today. They may be called mayors, presidents, or prime ministers. They may be rectors at school, or your teachers. All of them are your public servants. Therefore, look at all the people who govern you with this perspective. If you look at it this way, women, young people, and everyone in society will know their rights and demand them. However, there was a saying we had for many years, for example, that if you tore a button off a public servant or a police officer, it would start from 6 months in prison or something like that. Of course, a button shouldn't be torn off, but the other side shouldn't push you to the point of tearing it off either.
They should also treat the people who pay their salaries well, rather than seeing themselves in a position of absolute authority. No one you see in life is a person with extraordinary qualities; no one is indispensable, no one is extraordinary. Know this, we all have plenty of shortcomings and flaws. You should only be able to hold us accountable for this: What is missing for you in urban life? You are in a position to question these and ask us, 'Why aren't you doing them?'"
