Mansur Yavaş announces: They will use public transport for free

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated, "We are implementing the first step of our free transport application that we previously announced. We are launching our 'Social Subscription' application as of February 1, 2026. Approximately 375,000 of our fellow citizens between the ages of 18 and 65 who receive social support from our municipality and hold a personalized EGO card will be able to benefit from public transport for free."

According to the statement made by the ABB, approximately 375,000 citizens between the ages of 18 and 65 who receive social support from the ABB and hold a personalized EGO card will benefit from free public transport as part of the 'Social Subscription' project, which will be implemented for the first time in Turkey. The application will initially cover approximately 140,000 eligible individuals who have a personalized EGO card. Other eligible individuals will be included in the system in monthly periods after they personalize their cards. The 'Social Subscription' to be defined for the beneficiaries determined by the ABB Department of Social Services will be valid on buses belonging to the EGO General Directorate, metro, ANKARAY lines, and TCDD Başkentray services. The application will not be valid on private public buses.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yavaş used the following expressions in the message he shared regarding the 'Social Subscription' application:

"We are implementing the first step of our free transport application that we previously announced. We are launching our 'Social Subscription' application as of February 1, 2026. With this application, approximately 375,000 of our fellow citizens between the ages of 18 and 65 who receive social support from our Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and hold a personalized EGO card will be able to benefit from public transport for free. In the first phase, 140,000 of our citizens who personalize their cards as of February 1 will begin to benefit from this right.

Other eligible individuals will be included in the system gradually in monthly periods. This application will continue to expand step by step and will be implemented as a first in Turkey, covering all our fellow citizens in Ankara. The Social Subscription will be valid on EGO buses, metro, ANKARAY, and Başkentray lines. While implementing this application, we adopted the fundamental principle of not victimizing our transport tradespeople.

We made all our plans by considering public interest, sustainability, and the labor of our tradespeople. Our bus procurement process to strengthen our public transport infrastructure is also continuing simultaneously. In this context, our teams are determinedly carrying out their work to bring the latest technology, environmentally friendly, and efficient vehicles to our city. Finally, the technical examinations and meetings our team members held with 5 different companies in 5 different cities in China are also a part of this process. We have other projects that we are implementing step by step in the field of traffic and transport," he said.
