Mansur Yavaş points to Parliament following Öcalan's statement
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş answered journalists' questions following a suhoor event he attended.
Regarding Abdullah Öcalan's call for the PKK to lay down arms and dissolve the organization the other day, Yavaş said, "We need to see the outcome of the call before we can provide an answer. Because these things have been tried before and failed.
Previously, what the government said was an unconditional call, but when we look at it, some legal arrangements are being conditioned for the laying down of arms in the additional sentences.
So it is not unconditional; there is a condition involved. Furthermore, he has passed the buck to the congress, saying 'convene the congress and make a decision.' In a way, he has also withdrawn himself. We will wait and see what happens."
Mansur Yavaş answered journalists' questions following a suhoor event he attended.
Evaluating Öcalan's call, Yavaş said, "First and foremost, I say every time that the path to a solution is Parliament. Parliament is the representative of the people. Therefore, we wonder whether there is a bargain or not, and I personally approach it with caution."
Recalling Binali Yıldırım's statement, Yavaş said, "If one needs to state the reason for this, when we look at Mr. Binali Yıldırım's statements today, he says that Article 66 will be changed, meaning a promise was made previously, and that the way should be paved for the President to be elected president forever. If such a result emerges from this project, I am truly curious about what the outcome will be."
