Mansur Yavaş responds to Erdoğan's 'inflated water prices' claim: Let's talk with data
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan targeted the opposition in a speech, stating, "While they increase the price of water, which they promised to provide for free, tenfold, you see them talking about lowering the prices of alcoholic beverages on the other hand." Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş responded to Erdoğan's claims with documentation.
Following Erdoğan's claims that water is being sold at high prices, Yavaş shared a post on his social media account, responding to the allegations made by AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan by saying, "Let's talk with data today; because as you know, numbers do not lie."
Yavaş's post is as follows:
"Let's talk with data today; because as you know, numbers do not lie:
During the previous administration, that is, between 2010 and 2018, the price per cubic meter of water was:
71.0 TL for residential subscribers
82.7 TL for all subscribers.
In this period, between 2019 and 2024, the average price per cubic meter of water was: (current figures)
29.5 TL for residential subscribers
32.4 TL for all subscribers
More importantly, we provide water at 1 LIRA per ton to our 50 thousand subscribers who receive social support from our municipality.
Meanwhile, a significant portion of ASKİ's expenses consists of energy costs. If a reduction is made there, water can be provided even more cheaply.
Furthermore, the price of water is less than half of what it was in the previous period.
Respectfully announced to the public."
