Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, one of the figures whose roadmap has been most debated since the process of establishing the New Party following the 'absolute nullity' ruling in the CHP convention case, has announced his resignation from the CHP.
In a statement he made on social media, Yavaş responded to the words of CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı regarding him, "No one is superior to the Republican People's Party, and no one should see themselves as superior to the Republican People's Party," with the following expressions:
"I have never seen myself above political parties. I would consider such a claim to be insolence. I had previously stated that if there was any discomfort within the party regarding myself or the stance I have taken, I would do what is necessary. And due to some statements made today; I am leaving my membership in the Republican People's Party and submit to the public's appreciation that I am continuing my political path independently."
Following his written statement on social media, Yavaş spoke to Independent Türkçe.
Yavaş gave the following response to the assessment that "Some circles will interpret your resignation as you acting as a joint candidate":
"There are those in the media who link everything to my presidential candidacy.
This resignation decision has nothing to do with the presidential election.
I am watching what is being said in the media with astonishment."
