Mansur Yavaş reveals the amount of debt the SSI needs to collect outside of municipalities! 'Which cronies are you not collecting from?'

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s instruction to “shake up the municipalities” was followed by action from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

While a foreclosure decision was taken against 6 CHP-run municipalities that have debts to the Social Security Institution (SSI), AKP and MHP-run municipalities were bypassed.

The SSI placed a lien on the accounts of 6 out of the 16 subsidiaries of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş made assessments regarding the foreclosure on the municipality's 6 companies and what lies behind it.

Speaking to Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk, Yavaş stated that the AKP government has bankrupted the SSI, saying, “The figure they have been unable to collect is clear. Only 10 percent of their receivables are from municipalities. More than half of the municipal debts belong to AKP-run municipalities. A significant portion of the debts left to CHP mayors remained because AKP municipalities lost the elections. Those debts are debts that the Ministry of Labor did not collect on time.”

Stating that the SSI has 900 billion liras to collect from sources other than municipalities, Yavaş said, “Let the nation see who they are. Transparency requires this.”

Yavaş continued his remarks by saying, “It is clear that they simply cannot get over the pain of the March 31 defeat,” adding:

“The newly elected mayors have added 7 points on top of their work. AKP members conduct these polls too. They want to create a negative perception of CHP mayors, but these will not yield results.”

“WE WILL NOT DISRUPT OUR SERVICES IN ANY WAY”

Stating that the government is acting as if it cannot pay retirees because it cannot collect money from municipalities, Yavaş continued:

“On the other hand, they do not want the municipalities to function. Because the CHP conducted a poll regarding the 414 CHP-run municipalities and saw that satisfaction was high. For example, they tried to obstruct the Ankara Metropolitan Municipal Council. We increased the number of CHP-run municipalities from three to 16. Our vote share, which was 50 percent, has exceeded 60 percent. The public will give them a harsh response in the elections. We will not disrupt our services in any way. We will continue our service to the citizens.”

WHY DID THE SSI DEBT INCREASE?

Yavaş pointed to bank debts remaining from the previous term as the reason for the increase in SSI debt; he said, “We were going to take out a loan, they did not approve the loans. We even said let's renew them since interest rates dropped, but the municipal council did not allow that either. When you restructure, those who pay the money end up losing out. Those who don't pay laugh at those who do. We closed the high-interest bank debts by not paying the SSI debts and served the people of Ankara. It is not an arbitrary situation,” he said.

“They gave retirees 12,500 liras and condemned them to hunger. We provide 1,500 liras in cash per month, 600 liras in meat vouchers per month, and 600 liras in natural gas assistance for three consecutive months to our 52,000 low-income retirees who earn a salary of 12,500 liras; we are trying to look after these retirees whom they have deprived and victimized as much as our power allows,” said Yavaş, adding, “Even if the number rises to 100,000 retirees, we will continue our support to the end.”

"WHY ARE YOU NOT COLLECTING YOUR 900 BILLION LIRA RECEIVABLES?"

Saying that the SSI has 900 billion liras to collect from sources other than municipalities, Mansur Yavaş said:

“I ask, from which cronies are you not collecting 90 percent of it? Just as you display municipal debts, why are you not collecting your 900 billion lira receivables from those who make up 90 percent of SSI receivables? Let the nation see who they are. Doesn't transparency and justice require this? Let everyone see, and if they are going to pass judgment on us, let them do so accordingly. Therefore, I believe that this behavior, which is in bad faith, will be punished in the eyes of the public.”
