Mansur Yavaş shows he is not indifferent to penalties: 'A practice of punishment, not oversight'

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has rained down penalties on opposition channels. While Halk TV was handed a 10-day broadcast suspension due to the remarks of a guest, Sözcü TV and Tele 1 were each issued a 3 percent administrative fine.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş reacted to the penalties imposed by RTÜK on Halk TV, Tele 1, and Sözcü TV with a post on his social media platform X account.

Stating that "these recurring penalties have now turned into a practice of punishment rather than oversight," Yavaş expressed that the 10-day broadcast suspension given to Halk TV was severe and that RTÜK should reverse its decision.

In his post, Yavaş said the following:

“RTÜK’s penalties have once again targeted the same addresses: Halk TV, Tele 1, Sözcü TV…

These recurring penalties have now turned into a practice of punishment rather than oversight.

The 10-day broadcast suspension given to Halk TV due to the remarks of a guest speaker is extremely severe.

I believe that this unfair decision made by RTÜK will be overturned by the judiciary.”
