Mansur Yavaş shows he is not indifferent to penalties: 'A practice of punishment, not oversight'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş reacted on his social media account to the penalties imposed by RTÜK on Halk TV, Tele 1, and Sözcü TV.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has rained down penalties on opposition channels. While Halk TV was handed a 10-day broadcast suspension due to the remarks of a guest, Sözcü TV and Tele 1 were each issued a 3 percent administrative fine.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş reacted to the penalties imposed by RTÜK on Halk TV, Tele 1, and Sözcü TV with a post on his social media platform X account.
Stating that "these recurring penalties have now turned into a practice of punishment rather than oversight," Yavaş expressed that the 10-day broadcast suspension given to Halk TV was severe and that RTÜK should reverse its decision.
In his post, Yavaş said the following:
“RTÜK’s penalties have once again targeted the same addresses: Halk TV, Tele 1, Sözcü TV…
These recurring penalties have now turned into a practice of punishment rather than oversight.
The 10-day broadcast suspension given to Halk TV due to the remarks of a guest speaker is extremely severe.
I believe that this unfair decision made by RTÜK will be overturned by the judiciary.”
